An underground power cable failure caused a manhole explosion in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia Monday evening.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. underneath Main Street between Shurs Lane and Ridge Avenue, according to PECO.
The cable failure was so powerful that it shot a manhole cover on the sidewalk towards the sky, officials said. It also sent a power surge and cut off electricity to around 2,400 residents.
No one was hurt in the failure. Main Street was closed for a brief time as crews worked to repair the damage.
By midnight Tuesday, all power had been restored to customers, PECO said.
