Renovated Visitors Center Opens in Historic New Jersey Park

Officials are hoping a renovated visitors center at Great Falls National Historical Park will turn the northern New Jersey attraction into a thriving tourist destination.

More than 150 people were on hand in Paterson for Tuesday's grand opening of the recently renovated welcome center.

The Record newspaper reported Mayor Jose Torres called the falls sacred ground and the "crown jewel of Paterson and the state.''

The ceremony featured the unveiling of a recently restored photograph of the Great Falls taken in 1866. The photo is the only remaining item from the previous visitor center.
