Philly Cop Allegedly Drunk on the Job

A Philly cop was busted for allegedly drinking and driving on the job last weekend.

William Haviland was drinking in full uniform at a Northeast Philadelphia bar Saturday night, Police officials said.

The bar, Tygh’s Pub, is outside of his district and he was on duty at the time, officials confirmed. Haviland normally patrols the area near the recently opened SugarHouse casino in Fishtown.

At some point, Haviland’s supervisor caught up with him and smelled alcohol. Haviland then failed a Breathalyzer test, officials said.

Haviland was suspended with intent to dismiss, police said.

"It's not a good time for the Philadelphia Police Department -- we've taken some major, major hits," said Lt. Ray Evers. "And the Commissioner (Charles Ramsey) this morning said 'didn't this officer watch the news on Friday.'"

It was the second time in a matter of days that one of Philly’s finest found himself on the wrong side of the law. Last Friday police highway division Inspector Dan Castro was indicted on bribery and extortion charges.
