No Text Zone: Distracted Driving Tickets Up in Pennsylvania

Citations for distracted driving are up dramatically in Pennsylvania.

The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts reported Friday that citations have increased 52 percent in the last two years, to more than 12,000 in 2016.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that men accounted for 70 percent of drivers cited for texting while driving, or for wearing headphones or earphones while driving.

A distracted driving citation comes with a $50 fine plus court costs.
