State police were continuing to investigate why a 16-year-old boy who was reportedly walking to a friend's house was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train in western Pennsylvania.
Troopers in Bedford said Jonah Kindya was walking between the tracks near Hyndman when he was struck from behind by a train about 8:05 p.m. Sunday. The Capitol Limited, which was headed to Pittsburgh from Washington, D.C. with 264 passengers, was delayed for more than three hours, though no passengers were hurt.
The boy's mother, Susan Kindya, said her son was preparing to get his drivers' license and his Eagle Scout badge. She said he was walking to a friend's house when he was killed.
Police continued to investigate Tuesday, as they tried to determine how and why the boy didn't see or hear the train.
