DESPITE THE auto industry's painful contractions, there's no stopping the wheels of evolution. Automakers take three or four years (or more!) to move an idea from conception to a model or feature you can buy. So a lot of the cool technical innovations showing up at the current round of car shows like the 2009 Philadelphia Auto Show (opening Saturday) have been in the works since the days when consumers were flush and gas prices skyrocketing.
