Casting about for shrinking jobs

Thirty minutes into a job fair yesterday, Sharon Smith, 41, sat down and looked around. The place, a Center City hotel ballroom, was packed - more than 1,800 people lined up, briefcase to briefcase, to hand out resumes so they could get a job selling Avon beauty products, or buy a kit to sell jewelry, or apply for 10 temporary positions manning booths at community fairs this spring.
