Congress is seeking Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis' veteran records and security clearance information, NBC Washington's investigative team reported. The U.S House Veterans Affairs Committee requested any records of medical care given to Alexis by Veterans Affairs. Details of his benefits and "any services afforded to him by the department of Veteran's Affairs," the letter requested. As recently as last month, Alexis had called police from his Rhode Island hotel
and said he heard people talking to him through the walls, floors and ceiling. Police took no further action at the time. Alexis was also reportedly treated at a VA hospital for psychological issues. Alexis shot and killed 12 people Monday inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard, and he was killed during the incident. Police said Alexis had the proper clearance to enter the building that day after he had been discharged from the Navy in 2011.
