A 22-year-old woman told police she was held captive by a family friend for a week and beaten.

The woman managed to escape from a home on the 500 block of East Godfrey Avenue in the Fern Rock section of the city on Wednesday morning and went to a nearby dentist's office for help, according to police.

Police say the victim told them she went to the home on Oct. 16 and when she tried to leave, Leon Stewart, 21, would not let her.

She says she managed to escape when Stewart left the house early Wednesday. The woman says she was not sexually assaulted.

Stewart is charged with unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and related offenses.
