Upper Darby Mother Caught Stealing: Police

Woman was busted for alleged shoplifting while with her 3-year-old daughter

It was a shoplifting wish list that included brass, chains, bolts and joints and police say it led to one woman’s arrest.

The Delaware County Times is reporting that 26-year-old Candace MacNamee, of Clifton Heights, was with her 3-year-old daughter when she was allegedly caught stealing $245 worth of merchandise from an Upper Darby Home Depot.

The incident allegedly happened on Dec. 7 at the store located at 5300 W. Baltimore Ave. Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the times that McNamee took the items to sell for drugs.

“It’s a sad commentary to raise a 3-year-old child like this,” Chitwood said. “This theft is about drugs and stealing to survive. It’s not good.”

Chitwood says the little girl is now with her grandmother.

MacNamee—who’s been convicted for retail theft before—is scheduled to go before a judge on Dec. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
