The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority board is expected to approve a new police that would ban controversial ads that criticize particular persons or groups.
Thursday's vote comes after the Philadelphia-area agency was forced by a federal lawsuit to run ads on 84 buses from a group whose Texas contest for Prophet Muhammad cartoons drew gunfire.
Those ads were placed by the pro-Israel American Freedom Defense Initiative and showed a 1941 photograph of Adolf Hitler with former Arab leader Hajj Amin al-Husseini. The ads' tagline read: "Jew Hatred: It's in the Quran."
The new policy would require advertisers to pay legal bills if their ads prompt a negative reaction. It would also ban tobacco and gun ads.
