New Jersey Officers Charged With DUI

Two southern New Jersey police officers face possible suspensions after being charged with drunken driving.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the charges stem from a Sept. 3 incident accident when the vehicles the officers were in left the roadway and struck a church.

Authorities say the officers, Michael McLaughlin and Charles Twigg, were off duty at the time. McLaughlin was driving the car, which was owned by Twigg.

Both officers were thrown from the vehicle after it hit the church. McLaughlin was treated at a hospital, while Twigg declined medical assistance.

Twigg has returned to work, while McLaughlin is still recovering from his injuries.
