Man Chokes, Rapes, Throws Teen From Window: Cops

Police say the John A. Nelson and the victim knew one another and were both at a party in Wilmington

A Wilmington man's accused of attacking a 17-year-old girl at a party, sexually assaulting her and then throwing her out of a window.

John A. Nelson, 20, was at a party with the victim early Sunday morning at a house across the street from the Aetna Fire Station, according to police.

Police were already at the home around 1 a.m., clearing a large crowd of party-goers, when they heard screams for help.

According to police, Nelson attacked the victim after kicking down the door of a second floor bedroom where she'd been, alone.

When she tried to get away, police say Nelson grabbed the teen by the throat until she was unconscious, sexually assaulted her and then threw her from the bedroom window.

The victim broke an arm and punctured a lung when she fell. She had surgery at Christiana Hospital.

Nelson is charged with attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, strangulation, burglary, assault and criminal mischief.
