Girl Dies, Sister Hurt After Falling From 4th Floor Window at Allentown Apartment Building

One girl died and her sister was hurt after falling four stories from the window of an Allentown, Pennsylvania apartment building.

The 3-year-old and 5-year-old girls fell about 40 feet from the building along the 700 block of Turner Street around 7:50 p.m. Friday, Allentown Police Capt. Gail Struss told NBC10.

Officers performed CPR on the sisters, according to witnesses, before paramedics rushed the children to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.

Tamara Arnette, 3, died a short time later at Cedar Crest, said Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grimm. An autopsy was performed on the girl Saturday morning. Grimm determined she died from multiple blunt force injuries due to the fall. Her death was ruled an accident and police don't expect to file any charges.

Tamara's sister, Tianna Arnette, was initially listed in critical condition. Her condition was later upgraded to stable.

Circumstances surrounding the girls' fall are under investigation. A child-sized chair could be seen on the window-sill following the fall. Police say their investigation revealed the screen in the family's window was loose and not secure.

Witnesses said the girls' grandmother was on the scene following the fall. It's not clear who was watching them at the time.
