Bloody Rumble Between Students in West Philly

Six students were hospitalized with stab wounds Friday morning after a fight near West Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

The teens from West Catholic and Boys' Latin Charter got into a bloody altercation as they came off the El at 46th and Market a little bit before 8 a.m., witnesses said.

About a dozen students were involved in a series of fights, which lasted about 15 minutes.

The victims are all teenage boys. All of the injuries appear to be minor.

The five teens from Boys' Latin Charter were taken to Mercy Hospital with the following injuries, according to a source:

  • 17-year-old stabbed in right thigh
  • 17-year-old stabbed in left thigh
  • 18-year-old stabbed in left thigh
  • 18-year-old cut on mouth
  • Student stabbed in hand

Another boy from the school had a dislocated finger, according to school officials.

The sixth victim from West Catholic was taken to Jefferson. His condition was unknown, but did not appear to be life-threatening.

David Hardy, CEO of Boys' Latin, said he doesn't know what prompted the fight but that there were rumors on social media about a potential brawl breaking out Friday morning.

Hardy said he contacted West Catholic but that claim was disputed by West Catholic Principal Brother Timothy Ahern.

West Catholic officials did however confirm that the teen with the sharp object attends their school.

The exact reason for the fight wasn't immediately clear.
