Children of Slain Couple Testify in Suspect's Trial

Two children of a slain western Pennsylvania couple have testified that they had to walk past the bodies of their parents to get out of the basement where they had been locked up during the murders.

The Beaver County Times reports that the children's testimony came Tuesday in the death penalty trial of 37-year-old Robert Burgess in Beaver County.

Authorities say Richard and Demetria Harper were tied up and shot in the head in their Beaver Falls home in June 2008 after a drug dispute.

Their daughters, who were 8 and 10 years old at the time, said they were locked in a small furnace room, where they heard gunshots.

Twenty-seven-year-old Devon Shealey of Pittsburgh was convicted earlier of second-degree murder and sentenced to two consecutive life terms.
