An arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing of a former Villanova University professor.

Police charged 42-year-old Jose Diaz of the 100 block of West Hansberry Street with the murder of 69-year-old Carol Ambruster.

The former assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics was found dead with multiple stab wounds to her chest and neck in her Germantown apartment on Dec. 9.

Her roommate came home and discovered her body, according to police.

Ambruster taught at the private Catholic university from 1987 until her retirement in 2011, according to a school spokesman.
