Newark Police say a 78-year-old woman was dragged 30 feet during a purse snatching.
It happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday near East Main Street and Tyre Avenue. Officers say the victim was going into a doctor's office when a woman approached her from behind and grabbed her purse.
Police say the victim was knocked to the ground and dragged with the purse still on her shoulder. Officers say a witness yelled at the suspect, who let go of the purse and ran.
Authorities say the witness flagged down a uniformed Wilmington Police officer, who was driving by.
Investigators say the officer caught the suspect. Nasha L. Brooks of Wilmington was charged with assault and other offenses.
Police say the victim suffered injuries to her hand, but refused treatment.
