Police Officer Accused of Shooting Man in the Head Inside Home

Off-duty police officer James Stewart allegedly shot David Compton, 27, in the head early Saturday morning in the officer's home. Stewart has been charged with aggravated assault. Police tell NBC10's Deanna Durante that it wasn't a random act.
A Deptford Police officer has been charged in the shooting of another man inside his home.
Police say it happened Saturday, around 5 a.m., at the home of Officer James Stuart, 29, on 262 Stanford Avenue in Deptford Township.

Stuart allegedly shot David Compton, 27, once in the head. Compton was taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, NJ where he is in critical condition.
Stuart was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was released after posting $10,000 bail. An officer for nearly five years, he has been suspended from the Deptford Township Police Department without pay.
Neighbors describe Stuart as a quiet man who often stays to himself. Police continue to investigate the shooting.
