A cab jumped the curb outside the Kimmel Center Wednesday night, severely injuring four people, according to police.

"It was just awful," described witness Erica Vogin.

The accident happened just after 10 p.m. at Broad and Spruce Streets in Center City. The taxi driver was sideswiped by another car changing lanes, said police. The cab hit a pole and spun into the street.

The taxi driver, 38-year old Abiodun Adelkun, and his passenger were both thrown from the cab before it careened onto the sidewalk hitting a 30-year old woman riding her bike. Alfred Haubert, 58, was also hit while crossing the street after the car spun back into the street.

The taxicab hit a street pole before careening...

All four victims are being treated at local hospitals.  Adelkun and the bicyclist are at Hahnemann University Hospital. He is in serious condition and she was last listed in critical condition with head injuries.

Haubert, a stagehand from the Academy of Music, was placed in intensive care due to the extent of his injuries. Doctors were forced to amputate his left leg below the knee, according to his family. They are working to save his right leg.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated at a hospital and released.

Police were looking at surveillance video from nearby buildings to figure out who was at fault, but so far they believe this to be an accident.
