No More Honey Buns for Fletcher Cox

This offseason, Eagles Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has done his best to cut out junk food from his diet.

So it took him about 3/10ths of a second to answer when asked what he misses the most.

"Honey Buns," Cox blurted out. "I love Honey Buns. So Little Debbie, send me some Honey Buns and maybe I'll eat them."

Cox, 27, said he learned about the importance of having a healthier diet from former teammate DeMeco Ryans, who was one of the most respected players in the locker room during his time here from 2012-15.

Back when Ryans told Cox that he wouldn't be able to eat junk food like he did when he got older, Cox said, "OK, we'll see."

Now?

"It is the truth," Cox said.

It's hard to tell if cutting down junk food is making a difference on the field, but whatever Cox is doing, it's working. Through three games, he's played a ton and has raised his game to a level we've never seen from him before.

It was a little strange, though. In Cox's locker for the last week or so have been two big displays of Cheetos and Frito-Lay chips. And now he's talking about cutting out the junk from his diet?

But Cox explained that the snacks are a gift from a friend who sends them every year. He says they're for his teammates and even has a joke sign asking for tips. Having bags full of chips in his locker is, of course, a little tempting, but Cox is committed to his healthier food choices.

Most of the time.

"I have a chip or two," Cox said. "I'm not going to lie to you. I may have had one bag since they've been here. But that's about it."

A chip here or there won't kill him. Anyway, he deserves it.
