South Jersey Firefighter's Road to Recovery

A South Jersey firefighter, critically injured on the job when a semi-truck exploded, is talking only to NBC 10 about his recovery. Brian Richardson was one of the first responders to this fiery scene in May on Interstate 295 in Burlington County. A tractor trailer carrying oranges caught on fire and then exploded. Richardson, a veteran of the Florence Township Fire Department, was struck in the head by one of the truck doors. He had numerous skull fractures and internal bleeding, but after less than a month of being hospitalized, he was sent home.He credits his fellow emergency responders who gave him immediate first aid with his successful recovery. New Jersey State Police are still investigating the cause of the truck fire and explosion. Richardson says he hopes to be back fighting fires by mid-September.
