Oil Spill Snarls Morning Traffic on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia

An oil spill on Roosevelt Boulevard has closed down the northbound side between Levick Street and Harbison Avenue.

Hazmat crews responded to an oil spill on a busy stretch of Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia Monday morning.

Authorities confirmed that a "large oil spill" occurred in the northbound inner lanes of the Boulevard at Levick Street, in Mayfair.

Hazmat crews, firefighters, medics and police all responded to the spill about 8:30 a.m., snarling rush-hour traffic in the area.

It was unclear how long cleanup may take. The northbound inner and outer lanes remained shut down into the afternoon.
