Police Release Video In Lawndale Pizza Shop Heist Where Off-Duty Officer Killed Suspect

Video of man police say is wanted in connection with robbery of pizza shop in Lawndale.

Police released surveillance video Tuesday of a man wanted in connection with the attempted robbery of a Philadelphia pizza shop.

The June 4 robbery ended with the suspect’s accomplice being shot and killed by an off-duty detective..

The detective was picking up food at Rising Sun Pizza in Lawndale when two men came in and put a gun to his head, police said. The pair forced him to the floor and took $20 from him before the detective identified himself and pulled out his weapon.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said one suspect fired what proved to be blanks from close range before the detective returned fire.

The pair fled the shop before 33-year-old suspect Andrew Ellerbe collapsed in the parking lot and died.

The surveillance video of Ellerbe and his accomplice shows them walking down the street moments before the incident.

Investigators believe the at-large male is a suspect in several gunpoint robberies across the city.
