Sixteen people have died from the flu in Delaware this season and flu vaccines are being given out at clinics through Jan. 29 to help combat the problem.

The flu has claimed the lives of more than a dozen people in Delaware this season, state health officials tell NBC10.

Sixteen people have died after coming down with the virus in recent weeks. Most of the victims were over 65-years-old, but health officials say younger people are still susceptible and the number of positive cases are much higher than previous years.

The state health department reports there are more than 1,340 confimed cases of the flu across Delaware this season.

To combat the problem, the state is operating several flu clinics where they will provide influenza vaccines to the public through January 29.
