Dozens of Cats Rescued From Abandoned, Filthy Home

On Monday, 40 cats were rescued from the home on Route 73 in Voorhees, New Jersey. Some of the cats had bite marks on their faces and throats, according to rescuers. NBC10’s Cydney Long has more on the story.

Dozens of cats and kittens were rescued Monday after they were left alone without food or electricity inside a home in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Officials told NBC10 the owner of the home on Route 73 recently sold the property but was unable to care for dozens of cats that lived inside. The owner’s brother then contacted local animal rescue organizations for help.

On Monday, workers with Independent Animal Rescue took about 40 cats from the home. Some of the cats had bite marks on their faces and throats, according to the workers. They are still searching for more cats on the property.

“They are very agitated because there is no food and they are trying to bother the small cats,” said Subash Rashat who lives next door to the home. “I see two cats all starving and malnourished. They are looking for food and going through all garbage containers.”

Officials told NBC10 the owner of the home has remained cooperative with the investigation. They have not yet revealed whether he will face any cruelty charges.

New Jersey State Animal Rescue is currently collecting donations so the animals can be cared for, vaccinated, shaved and ultimately put up for adoption.
