14-year-old girl and her mother injured after over 40 shots fired into home in Millville, NJ

The pair were shot while they were sleeping, officials said

A mother and her teenage daughter are recovering from gunshot wounds after someone opened fire shooting into their South Jersey home while they were sleeping. NBC10’s Leah Uko spoke with the grandmother and did a walkthrough of the home where it happened.

A mother and daughter were both shot in Millville, Cumberland County early Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:45 a.m. police responded to the 500 block of north 6th Street for multiple gunshots fired, according to police Chief Ross Hoffman.

When police arrived they found a 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 36-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

The girl was taken to the hospital and was placed in stable condition.The woman was transported and treated at the hospital and released, police said.

Officials said that the pair were sleeping in their home when gunfire erupted.

Hoffman said there were approximately 40 rounds fired at the scene.

"There's bullets everywhere in my wall," Romana Baez, the teen's grandmother said as she walked NBC10 through the home recently. "It was all foggy, the walls, the cement was all over because the bullets hit the walls."

According to police, officers are continuing to investigate the shooting.
