Robert Johnson is a meteorologist for NBC10’s First Alert Weather Team. You can watch his live weather forecasts weekday evenings on NBC10.
A Northeast Philadelphia native, Johnson joined NBC10 in January 2025. He returns to Philadelphia from WTVD-TV, in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served as weekend evening meteorologist for five years. Prior to joining WTVD, he interned in the news and weather department at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. Prior to that, he also interned in the weather department for WTXF-TV, also in Philadelphia.
Robert attended elementary school at Valley Christian School in Huntingdon Valley and completed junior high and high school at Calvary Christian Academy in Somerton. A proud Nittany Lion, he graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science with a concentration in weather forecasting and communication. He also holds a minor in Energy Business & Finance. In January 2023, he earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society.
“I’m thrilled to join the NBC10 First Alert weather team and return to work and forecast the weather in my hometown,” said Johnson. “When it comes to weather, the Philadelphia region has it all: four seasons and various microclimates, such as city, suburbs, Jersey Shore/Delaware beaches, Lehigh Valley and the Poconos. It can make for a challenging forecast but keeps you on your toes.”
Longtime and former NBC10 meteorologist, Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, served as Robert’s first mentor in meteorology. Schwartz managed a program called H.O.P.E.S. (Hurricane’s Outreach Program to Educate Scientists), which aimed to teach teenagers about atmospheric science and broadcasting. Johnson joined the program in Fall 2010 and continued attending through Spring 2013, meeting once a month at NBC10 to learn about the industry from Schwartz.
In his free time, Johnson enjoys spending time down the Jersey shore, watching Eagles games, exploring restaurants, visiting coffee shops, and traveling.
