David Charns is an award-winning investigative reporter for NBC10. His reports air weekdays on NBC10 News and across NBC Philadelphia’s streaming platforms, including NBC10.com.
A Boston native, David joined NBC10 in May 2026 after serving as an investigative reporter and anchor at 8 News Now in Las Vegas. Prior to that, he was a morning anchor at WMTW in Portland, Maine, and earlier reported for WPTZ/WNNE in Burlington, Vermont. He began his career in Boston, interning at WBZ and WCVB before joining WHDH as a writer.
In Las Vegas, David earned recognition for impactful reporting on public safety issues, including investigations into Nevada’s DUI laws. His coverage following the deaths of two Nevada State Police troopers, along with his reporting on lenient DUI penalties, prompted new sentencing guidelines signed into law in 2025. He also exposed delays in testing protocols in DUI-related deaths, leading the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to change its procedures.
David’s work has earned 10 regional Emmy Awards, including multiple honors for investigative journalism, enterprise reporting, and writing. He also anchored an Emmy Award-winning newscast and is a two-time recipient of a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
He graduated from Boston University with a degree in journalism and American studies and later earned a Master of Science in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School.
Outside the newsroom, David is an avid runner who regularly competes in road races. He is also a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).
