6 Local Firms to Layoff Nearly 2,000 Workers

Six different companies with local operations notified the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry through a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) that they would be laying off employees for various reasons.

Here’s a breakdown.

• Snack food giant Mondelez International, created when Kraft split in two back in 2012, said it was laying off 172 employees in its 12000 Roosevelt Blvd. facility in Northeast Philadelphia, which is closing. Deerfield, Ill.-based Mondelez said in February 2014 that the baking facility that makes Nabisco products would be closing this year, ending a total of 350 jobs, as part of a restructuring plan with the work moved to facilities in Fair Lawn, N.J., and Richmond, Va.
