Barricade Suspect in Custody: Cops

Police say the suspect is a psychiatric patient who suffers from schizophrenia and was off his medication.

A man is now in custody after a barricade situation in Delaware County.

It happened Monday night at a home on the 100 block of West Elbon Road in Parkside Borough.

Investigators say a woman called police around 8:15 p.m. after her 37-year-old son threatened her. The woman left the home while the suspect remained inside, according to police.

When police arrived, investigators say the suspect verbally threatened an officer while armed with weapons, possibly guns and knives. A SWAT team and FBI negotiators responded to the scene and West Elbon Road was shut down.

The man was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. Police say the suspect is a psychiatric patient who suffers from schizophrenia and was off his medication. Police have not yet revealed the exact charges against the man. No one was hurt in the ordeal.
