Flash Flooding Strands Drivers

Some Good Samaritans came to the rescue of a few drivers who got caught in flood waters during Friday’s torrential downpour in South Jersey.

The White Horse Pike is a popular alternate stretch to the Jersey Shore, but on Friday night it became a deceptive flood threat as the water rose quickly on the road through Winslow Township near Fleming Pike.

"It's just much too deep, much, much deeper than people thought," said Johna Klym.

Klym was one of the unlucky drivers whose car got stuck in four feet of water. Millie Connors' car started floating. She was stranded and scared.

"I'm still shaken, very shaken up," she said.

The water was high enough to reach seat cushions and flood engines.

"To make matters worse, it's my ex-husband's car," Connors said. "I'm in trouble."

Good Samaritans, police and fire crews helped push four cars to higher ground.
