Temple Earns a No. 5 Seed in NCAA Tournament

The Owls (24-7) will play the winner of the play-in game Wednesday between No. 12 seeds California (24-9) and South Florida (20-13) in the Midwest Region.

Temple head basketball coach Fran Dunphy was surprised to see his Owls earn a fifth seed in the NCAA Tournament. Dunphy tells NBC10’s John Clark and Sports Final’s Howard Eskin his plans to get his team ready for the Big Dance.

The Temple Owls have earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament.

The Owls (24-7) will play the winner of the play-in game Wednesday between No. 12 seeds California (24-9) and South Florida (20-13) in the Midwest Region. The Owls will open the tournament in Nashville, Tenn.

This is the fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Owls.

Led by coach Fran Dunphy, they won the Atlantic 10 regular-season championship.

Temple is coming off a disappointing loss to Massachusetts in the A-10 Tournament, and hasn't won more than one game in the NCAA tournament since they advanced to the regional final in 2001 under former coach John Chaney.
