In celebration of his first birthday on Tuesday, Gritty took a stroll through the streets of Philadelphia with a string of balloons tied to his back and a birthday hat on top of his helmet.
The big orange fella started at the Delaware River and walked the streets through City Hall, over a couple of water fountains, through Love Park, and down the Ben Franklin Parkway to the Museum of Art, where he ran up what he called "Dr. Balboa's steps."
Gritty is not one to follow rules, so he didn't exactly stop for traffic. More like traffic stopped for him.
There were plenty of selfies, high fives, and Gritty even took a moment to admire the heck out of one random guy's beard.

Perhaps the only real hijinx came when Gritty "borrowed" a stroller with a kid in it. Thankfully, he didn't get far.
So, uh, happy birthday, Gritty. Nice of you to celebrate with your people.
