By the Numbers: Aaron Nola on a Roll for the Ages

Aaron Nola is on a roll-a.

I promise these stats will be better than that lede.

• Nola's 0.80 WHIP is the lowest for any Phillies pitcher through his first six starts of a season since Steve Carlton in 1972 (0.69).

• Nola's 0.80 WHIP is also third-best in baseball, behind only Clayton Kershaw and Jake Arrieta, who are both pretty good.

• Nola is the second Phillies pitcher ever and first since 1979 (Dick Ruthven) with back-to-back starts of seven-plus innings, no runs and two or fewer hits allowed.

• Your National League top-five in opponents' batting average:

1. Jake Arrieta (CHC) - .142
2. Vince Velasquez (PHI) - .164
3. Matt Wisler (ATL) - .175
4. Aaron Nola (PHI) - .176
5. Clayton Kershaw (LAD) - .182

• Nola's .213 opponents' on-base percentage is third-best in the NL, behind only Kershaw and Arrieta. It's fourth-best in the majors. Tampa Bay's Drew Smyly leads at .195.

• Nola is striking out 9.9 batters per nine innings and walking 1.6. The only other starting pitchers in baseball with that high a K/9 and that low a BB/9 are Kershaw and Smyly.

• Nola's scoreless innings streak of 20 is the longest by a Phillies pitcher since Cole Hamels threw 22⅔ scoreless in June 2014.
