The Flyers hopes of going anywhere in the playoffs took a big hit Thursday. The team announced that goalie Michael Leighton would miss eight to 10 weeks with a “severe” high ankle sprain, according to Philly.com.
Leighton went down in the first period of the Fly Guy’s 4-3 shootout loss in Nashville Tuesday night.
The Flyers could likely lean on backup Brian Boucher and Phantoms call-up Jeremy Duchesne to block shots for the rest of the regular season.
Leighton was a find for general manager Paul Holmgren who pulled him off the trash heap back in December after injuries began to pile up for No. 1 goalie Ray Emery.
Leighton was 16-5-2 with a 2.48 goals against average and .918 save percentage since joining the Flyers.
