Sixers Overcome Losing Streak, Flyers… Don't

After three straight losses, the 76ers have finally squeaked by with a narrow win against the Raptors.

The Flyers, though, can't say the same thing.

Let's start with the good.

The Sixers came out strong and finished the first quarter 28-18. The boys held a steady lead until the third quarter, when the Raptors came back to make it a one-point game.

The Raptors came up short and the Sixers escaped with a 98-93.

Starter Elton Brand led the team with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Thaddeus Young came off the bench to put up an impressive 20 points of his own.

Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan led his team with 27 points while Jerryd Bayless added 24 points and eight boards.

The Sixers now have a few days of rest before facing off against the Orlando Magic on Monday night.

Although it was a tough week, the Sixers have already secured a spot in the playoffs. The first round is set to begin next weekend.

Speaking of tough times, it's been a tough week and a half for the Flyers. The Orange and Black continued their losing streak on Friday night after an overtime loss to the Sabres.

Things were looking up for the Flyers when Scott Hartnell scored the first goal at 10:24 in the first quarter. But the Sabres came out with a vengeance in the second period, scoring two goals in under five minutes and taking the lead. The Flyers answered with two goals of their own by Kris Versteeg and Danny Briere.

The lead wouldn't hold as the Sabres scored to tie up the game and bring it to overtime.

Thomas Vanek scored the golden goal for the Sabres just 76 seconds into extra time.

The loss allowed the Capitals to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference and dropped the Flyers into a first-place tie with Pittsburgh. The Penguins won in Overtime against the Islanders.
