The Philadelphia Phillies announced Thursday that David Montgomery is returning from his medical leave, but he will not rejoin the club as team president.
Montgomery, 68, who has been part of the Phillies front office since 1971, will assume the position of chairman.
Pat Gillick will become president of the Phillies, a position he's held on an interim basis since August.
The announcement from the club ends months of speculation over the leadership of the Phillies as the team begins a rebuilding phase.
