Oscar Pistorius will become the first ever double amputee to run in the Olympics after South Africa's Olympic committee, in a surprise last-minute decision, added him to the country's London-bound roster. The 25-year-old, known as the "Blade Runner," did not meet the country's qualifying criteria in the individual 400 meter, but South Africa's track body asked permission for Pistorius to be allowed to join the team. "Since he's going to be there (in London), our decision is he can run both" the 400m and the 4x400m relay, for which he did qualify, Olympic committee chief executive Tubby Reddy told The Associated Press. "There's no reason why he can't." Pistorius, who had both of his legs amputated below the knee when he was 11-months old, runs on carbon fiber blades.
