Family Rescued After Boat Catches Fire Off Malibu Coast

No injuries from the fire were reported.

Four family members had to be rescued after their boat caught fire off of Paradise Cove in Malibu on Saturday night, fire officials said.

Authorities said they received a call at about 7 p.m. that the 40-foot vessel was on fire a few miles off the coast.

Fire department officials said three adults and one child were taken from the boat and transported to the pier. No injuries from the fire were reported.

Fire officials were unable to save the boat and it eventually sank.

Officials with the Coast Guard said the family mentioned that a part of the engine under a wooden seat became warm and lit the seat on fire.

It is unclear what ultimately caused the fire.
