Heavy flooding hit western Canada and could force as many as 100,000 people out of their homes, NBC News reported. The city of Calgary, home to almost 1.1 million people, was among the most severely affected, along with communities of Canmore, Bragg Creek and High River. Calgary city officials declared a state of local emergency and ordered more than 75,000 residents to evacuate and take shelter. Thousands of others in outlying areas were also told to get out. Environment Canada issued rainfall alerts early Friday for parts of the state. "Some areas have already received over four inches of rain since Wednesday night,” it said. More rain was on the way Friday but it should continue to taper Friday night and into Saturday, according to the alert. Some rivers were not expected to crest in some parts of the Calgary until Saturday.
