A fire in West Philadelphia claimed the life of Anna Williams, a 98-year-old woman.
Al Williams left his home to do errands and returned to see smoke billowing from his mother's second floor bedroom window in the Carroll Park neighborhood.
Anna L. Williams, 98, was inside the burning home and did not survive the fire, according to her son Al Williams. The fire started just before 5 p.m. Sunday evening at 57th and Popular Streets in West Philadelphia.
"Miss Williams was a good-hearted woman who would help anyone and give you the shirt off her back," said friend Pamela Johnson.
Williams worked for State Senator Hardy Williams until she was 80.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross is asssiting two fire survivors. More details will be posted here as they become available.
