Wilmington Port, Dole Sign 15-Year Lease

A battle for Dole started between Delaware and New Jersey when a new port opened up in Paulsboro. Delaware needed to convince the fruit company to stay at the Port of Wilmington and save at least 2500 jobs. NBC10’s Tim Furlong reports on how the governor of Delaware made a difference in the decision.

The Port of Wilmington and Dole Food Co. have signed a 15-year lease for Dole to import and export cargo.

The lease, signed Tuesday, includes terms governing Dole's use of the port and commitments by the port for capital improvements to meet Dole's needs.

Dole is the Port's largest customer, importing bananas, pineapples and other fruit and exporting forest products and general cargo since 1982.
