Toddler shot, killed in Allentown, police say

A toddler was shot and killed on the 900 block of Hamilton Street in Allentown, Pennsylvania, police said

Police say they were called to a house in Allentown due to a report of a shooting Thursday. Officials say when they arrived at the scene, they began first aid on a child who was found in the home with a gunshot wound. NBC10’s Fred Shropshire has more on the developing story.

An investigation is underway after a toddler was shot and killed in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Police responded to a home on the 900 block of Hamilton Street on Thursday around noon for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found a young boy -- later identified as 3-year-old Elijah Abreu Borgen -- suffering from a gunshot wound. The officers rendered first aid to the boy. Borgen was then transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries. 

An autopsy was completed on the boy with the cause of death being a gunshot wound to the body. The manner of death is pending investigation.

Police have not yet revealed what led to the shooting or information on any suspects. Investigators said there is no physical threat to the community in connection to the shooting. 

Allentown Police, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are all investigating.
