The freezing rain changes to rain this morning and by 9 a.m. road conditions should be a lot better in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. We could get more snow Thursday into Friday.
It was a precarious drive for many early morning commuters who walked to their cars on crunchy, ice-covered surfaces and then got behind the wheel.
Freezing rain followed Monday night's snow, creating some dangerous conditions.
"The longer you can delay getting on the roads, the better this morning," said NBC10 Meteorologist Bill Henley.
The worst time for drivers was the early hours -- until 9 a.m. -- when the freezing rain changed over to rain.
Ice is expected to last longer north and west of the city.
Philly public and parochial schools were scheduled to open two hours late and across the region there were many more delays than closings. Be sure to check our list of school closings and delays.
SEPTA reported some delays. Routes 101 and 102 of the trolley lines are terminated at Terminal Square due to power problems. Shuttle buses are operating between 69th Street and Terminal Square.
