Tall Ships Arrive in Philadelphia, Camden

The tall ships have returned to our area. Events will be happening on both sides of the river for the next several days for the Tall Ships Parade.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle and a dozen other domestic and international tall ships will be paying a visit to the Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey waterfronts.

The 295-foot three-mast Eagle is scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. Thursday at Penn's Landing and will be open for free public tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Eagle has been a classroom at sea for future Coast Guard officers since 1946. Officials say 150 cadets from the Coast Guard Academy are currently embarked.

Organizers say this week's event on both sides of the Delaware River will allow people a close-up view of famed ships such as the French vessel L'Hermione, Brazilian vessel Cisne Branco, Canadian Barque Picton Castle, and Philadelphia's own Gazela.
