Taj Mahal Threatens Union With December Closure

Atlantic City casino woes continue as Trump Entertainment Resorts lists a possible closing date for the Taj Mahal unless its union makes concessions.

Trump Entertainment Resorts has notified New Jersey casino regulators it will close the Taj Mahal on Dec. 12 if its main union doesn't drop its appeal of a court-ordered savings package.

CEO Robert Griffin tells the Associated Press the company has notified the state Division of Gaming Enforcement of the planned shutdown date.

Griffin says the union must drop its appeal of a bankruptcy court order that terminated the union contract, canceling health insurance and pension coverage.

He says the appeal must be withdrawn by the end of the month to avoid a Dec. 12 shutdown of the casino and the loss of its 3,000 jobs.

Union representatives had no immediate comment.
