Gunman in Backseat of Car Shoots Man 19 Times During Double Homicide

A 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were both on 68th Avenue and Old York Road around 7:40 p.m. when an unidentified gunman opened fire.

An investigation is underway after a gunman shot and killed two men sitting inside a car in Philadelphia's East Oak Lane section Thursday night.

A 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, who police originally said was 26, were both inside a silver car on 68th Avenue and Old York Road around 7:40 p.m. Philadelphia police say an unidentified gunman was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle and opened fire.

The 22-year-old man, identified by the Philadelphia Police Department as Stephan Towns, was struck 19 times throughout his body, while the second man, Felix Smith, was struck six times. The gunman then got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.

Both victims were taken to Einstein Hospital where they were pronounced dead shortly after.

SWAT teams searched through nearby buildings but the suspect has not been found and a weapon has not been recovered.
