Penn State Police Use Taser For First Time on Student

Police in State College say they've used a Taser for the first time.

The stun gun was used to subdue a female Penn State student who was allegedly involved in a disturbance at a McDonald's restaurant about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

State College and Penn State police had announced Tuesday that they were equipping their officers with the stun guns.

Online court records indicate the student, 22-year-old Ciarah Bishop, of Philadelphia, remained in jail Monday. The records don't list a defense attorney.

Police charged her with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and others crime because they say she refused to leave, and punched an officer in the head when police were called to remove about 50 people from the restaurant near the campus.
