Officials Urge Sledders to Stay Off Delaware Ocean Dunes

Sledders will now face a hefty fine if caught sledding on the dunes at Cape Henlopen State Park in Sussex County, Delaware.

Stay off the dunes! Even if it's only for sledding.

Sand dunes are closed year-round to pedestrian traffic and activities, even when there is snow cover.

The ocean dunes contain fragile ecosystems that protect beaches and the communities that border them. To prevent further damage the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control asks that people refrain from sledding.

With more snow in the forecast, the DNREC asks the public to remember that sledding and snowboarding are forbidden on the dunes.
